Interception The New Space Race Comet Clement series #2 #3 eBook Kevin George

Kevin George is a good writer. This book read well and encouraged the reader to continue. It could have been quite good. Unfortunately, it ended poorly.

Every author wants readers to purchase their next book. The right way to achieve that goal is to do such a good job that readers actively seek more in the series. The wrong way to do that is to leave the reader hanging, which is exactly what this book did.

Kevin, if you want to write serials for periodicals, write them. You'll do well. If you want to write stand alone books, don't end them before the story line ends, as you did with this one.

Interception The New Space Race Comet Clement series #2 #3 eBook Kevin George Reviews

I usually don't like political based stories, but this story has such a diverse range of topics the politics take a back seat to the survival strategies. The explanations for all events involving the space station construction are fascinating and less technical than one would think. Everything is explained so simply it is easy to follow the story and remain interested. I am going to start reading book four as soon as this review is posted. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes to read good books..not just science fiction junkies.
This was a good story, an ambitious plot. It was a little in need of editing at times, but otherwise solid.

A comet is detected on a direct course for Earth. It will hit sometime in 2020 and decimate the world. Only the president and a few members of his "inner circle" know about it, and they make plans to build a massive space station in order to save at least some of mankind. The story opens as the president is facing reelection in 2012, and in danger of losing, the massive cost of the space station being a major issue. Making the selection of the design of the space station public fuels the imagination of the public and helps president Marshall win reelection.

There was an astronaut sent into space on basically a one-way mission to intercept the comet. We watch him struggle with his sanity, alone and isolated for years, until the moment of truth comes. Unfortunately he fails, distracted at a crucial moment when a picture of his daughter falls.

As the years go by, we watch the main characters as they struggle to build the station. Faced with multiple dilemmas early on, the President decides to enlist the help of Russia, who not only provides materials and manpower, but now that they know the secret also set about building a massive underground cave deep in the mountains that they also hope will survive the comet strike. The Chinese, threatened by this sudden collaboration, rush to build their own station.

The story continues until 2016 when president Marshall's second term is up and he has to let his VP in on the secret. There are numerous plot lines running as we follow the construction and the members of the inner circle, as well as the daughter of the astronaut and a kid that turns out to be the son of one of the discoverers of the comet who was killed in a motorcycle accident. It gets a little cumbersome at times, but you do get the sense that all of their paths are about to cross.

This is an entertaining enough book to keep you turning pages, although the writing is a touch below perfect. I would recommend it to anybody who is into outer space adventures.
Interception & The New Space Race

This is an interesting read. However, the science behind the plot is very thin. Assumptions are made that are invalid. The editing is poor in places! This is understandable because editing a long book becomes difficult because you see what you are thinking, not what you are reading. The spelling is also poor. This is sad because of spell checkers built into modern authoring software. Also, radio protocol is invalid. It really gets to me when I read or hear "over and out." What does "over and out" mean? Well, let's break it down. First understand that radio protocol was developed for half-duplex radio transmissions. Half-duplex only allows a speaker and a listener. Both the speaker and listener cannot speak at the same time. Therefor, bearing this in mind, I hope the following makes more sense! "Over" means "I am done talking. I am turning talking "over" to listener." "Out" means the conversation is complete and the transmission is terminated, or "I am leaving and "out" of this transmission! So, now let's put "over and out" together and see what it means. "Over" = you go ahead and talk; "and out" = I am hanging up now! So it means "you talk now and I am hanging up on you!" Another thing that bothers me is the failure to understand "chain of command!" An Admiral's Second in Command is a Sargent. Oh really! A friend of mine's father was a three star general in the Army. He had five aides to chaffer him, to cook, to keep his house in order, to schedule his time, and to act as his secretary. Under his command were various generals, colonels, lieutenant colonels, majors, captains, first lieutenants, second lieutenants, sergeants, corporals, specialists, etc. Each of the officers had responsibilities to make sure that all of the requirements of command were met. Remember, the military is a giant bureaucracy with requirements for warriors and support personnel. This concept is lost in this novel.

Summary the novel just carries you on, but slows down with too many story lines. Editing is poor. Research seems nonexistent. Characters are rather two dimensional.

Finally despite my criticisms I have purchased all books in this series! Why? The best reason for reading a linked set of novels I want to find out what happens! I hope that I will not be disappointed.

My recommendation, buy the first book in the series and decide if you want to continue!

Kevin keep writing!
